My Goal
I get so frustrated when I find a good recipe online only to have ads, popups, flyouts, long winded stories, and ‘Sign up to save’ messages blasted at me. I just want to cook the damn soup, people!!!
Hence this site. Recipes For Me is a collection of recipes tested by me, Dylan. Every recipe here has been cooked, screwed up, tasted, and had Tips added before making it to the site.
The goal is simple:
- reliable recipes,
- that look good on a phone or table screen,
- without advertisements,
- with clear instructions,
- without a life story before the ingredients list!
Each recipe is propertly attributed because I definitely didn’t invent them; I just cooked and enjoyed them.
It Started With a Pan & a Knife
I’ve always enjoyed cooking but I wasn’t particularly good at it. Then when I left a corporate job for a short sabbatical, I got a gift certificate from my colleagues. I bought two things: a carbon steel sautee pan and a cheap but good chef’s knife.

Then I spent a lot of time learning how to cook: how to use the knife efficiently; how to cut various vegetables; how to season (more salt!!!); when to not use carbon steel (tomato sauce!!!). I still thoroughly enjoy the process of cooking, especially mise en place. My brain is very much an order-from-chaos, everything-in-its-place brain. I enjoy eating as well, but it’s the cooking that I really love.
I also love ordering out because I prefer my Indian food delivered to my door in cardboard containers :-)
Peas and Mint
Here’s a quick recipe:
- Boil an entire back of frozen peas for 8 minutes.
- Meanwhile, chiffonade 3-4 leaves of fresh mint.
- Drain peas, leaving a small amount of hot cooking water in the pan.
- Over a very low heat, stir in 2 tablespoons of butter with the peas until the butter and water are fully emulsified.
- Add the fresh mint at the last second and give a light stir.
